Oil of the Month Fir Needle Botanical Name: Abies siberica Family: Pinaceae |
Fir Needle Essential Oil. |
All Pine trees yield a resin, which is obtained by tapping the trees. The resin, depending on its processed state, varies in uses. The Fir Needle oil, however, is distilled from the Pine needles of the tree. That is what is mainly used in aromatherapy. It will be the Fir Needle oil that we refer to in this article for its medicinal values.
Most of the Fir Needle oil comes from the Fir trees in Europe. However, here in the states we have many forests full of Fir trees. They grow in abundance from the Rocky Mountains to the West Coast.
Most of us have used Pine-sol at one time or another for its disinfecting abilities. The active ingredient, you guessed it, is Pine oil. Not the thicker Pine resin mentioned before. Pine oil is antibacterial and naturally deodorizes. So adding Fir Needle oil to your cleaning bucket will kill all kinds of bacteria in your kitchen, bathroom and it is even safe for children's areas. Add to a spray bottle to make the job easier. Try blending with Lavender, Thyme or Sweet Orange essential oils for added benefits and to make a great smelling cleanser.
Fir Needle oil also helps to relax the body, including the muscles and the mind. It eases symptoms of arthritis, rheumatism, sprains, stiffness in the joints and overworked muscles.
Fir Needle is revitalizing and excellent for anxiety and stress related conditions. It is strengthening to the body and helps combat fatigue and nervous exhaustion. It helps to ground you mentally and is quite useful in convalescence.
The antispasmodic traits of this oil make it great for asthma, bronchitis and coughs. It also helps fight infection, making it useful for colds, flu, fever, sinusitis and sore throats.
Besides bringing a fresh scent into your home, Fir Needle oil has wonderful medicinal uses. So as the holidays approach, bring Fir Needle oil into your life. It provides a masculine scent that most men enjoy. It is one of the traditional scents of the holidays and it will help lessen anxiety that often plagues us this time of year. If you do get a cold, be sure to try Fir Needle to ease the symptoms and speed up the recovery time.
