Herbal Baths Provide Some Very
Real Physical and Emotional Benefits.
Scientists are discovering the many healing properties herbs produce, from being an antiseptic or bactericidal,to calming nerves and stimulating blood flow.
Bathing with herbs is not only good for your skin, it is good for your mind and emotions. Some scents boost beta waves in your brain (for alertness), while others encourage alpha waves (for relaxation).
Bathing promotes your blood vessels to dilates lightly, heart rate slows, muscles release tension and the herbs nourish the skin. Some believe soaking in a bath brings back "in the womb feelings." This is a good opportunity to refocus your thoughts.
Remember, different herbs produce different results. See the healing herb chart to find herbs that will produce the outcome you desire.
One way to enjoy an herbal bath is to make a simple infusion. Steep herbs (approximately 1/4 cup) for about 20 minutes in water that has been brought to a boil. (Do not boil herbs because they will lose their volatile oils and much of their healing qualities.)Strain herbs before you add to bath water. The nice thing about infusions is that you can make them ahead of time and use when you wish.
